The Amory Ministerial Alliance met today with Governor Haley Barbour. I'll have more up about that later, as well as my feelings about Ministerial Alliance participating in what was unabashedly a campaign stop. We didn't put the meeting together, but were invited. The group that actually put the meeting together were all prominent Pentecostals (pastors and laity as best I could tell, I'm still learning the community here).
So in that context, Governor Barbour, who is Presbyterian, said he always tells his Pentecostal friends he was raised a dour Presbyterian. Then he said, "H. L. Mencken said about Presbyterians that they lived with the 'haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy.'" Although I think the original quote was actually referring to Puritans, I got a laugh about it.
